Steering Rack Boot vs CV Boot: OE and Position Guide
“Rubber boot” is not a sufficient description for a replacement request. A steering rack boot protects the steering linkage, while a CV boot belongs to a drive axle joint. Their positions, shapes and kit contents are different.
Identify the component location
Confirm whether the boot is installed on the steering rack or the drive shaft joint. Record inner or outer position, axle and side when the applicable catalog separates them.
Match the OE and drivetrain data
Use the exact OE number together with vehicle model, chassis, engine, transmission and 2WD or 4WD configuration where relevant. Do not confirm a boot from diameter or appearance alone when multiple joint designs exist.
