Shock Absorber vs Strut Assembly: Position and OE Checks
A request for a shock absorber may mean a damper only or a complete strut assembly. These supply formats can require different installation work and should be identified before a wholesale quote.
Confirm the supplied format
Record whether the buyer needs a damper, complete strut, coil spring assembly, mount or another suspension component. Do not assume that a spring, mount, dust cover or hardware is included unless the product record states it.
Check axle and side
Confirm front or rear axle and left or right side where applicable. Match the OE number with the vehicle model, chassis, engine, production period and drivetrain when the catalog shows multiple suspension designs.
Buyer checklist
- OE number and superseded reference
- Damper-only or complete assembly format
- Front/rear and left/right position
- Vehicle model, chassis, year and engine
- Quantity, pair requirement and destination
- VIN or catalog record for uncertain applications
